Measurement and calculation of wire drawing die wear by wire drawing machine control system

Aug 21, 2019

The test uses a high-carbon steel wire with a diameter of 11 mm and is drawn 9 times to 4.26 mm. The first 4 passes have a diameter of 75 mm and a height of 28 mm. The diameter of the wire drawing die is 25 mm and the height is 28 Mm. The last 5 passes of the conical blank are 17-18 mm in diameter and 18 mm in height, and the blank is mounted in a pressure mold with a 75 mm diameter jacket. The wire drawing machine has a diameter of 1 200 mm. The wire drawing machine is equipped with a laser size gauge and a radiant pyrometer. The wire length is measured by a pulse counter mounted on the last roll. The compression ratios of the first to the ninth passes were 23.5%, 22.5%, 21%, 19.5%, 19.5%, 18%, 17.5%, 17%, 15.5%, and the corresponding wire speeds were 1.5, 2 respectively. , 2.5, 3, 4, 4.6, 5.2, 6.5, 8 m/s. Compared with the error measured by the micrometer, the laser measurement has a dimensional error of 0.01 mm and a deviation from the calculated value of ±0.01 mm.

The wire drawing die wear is measured by the size of the drawn wire minus the die hole size measured before the test, and the wire length is measured by the length of the die hole. The initial steel wire size is 0.02 mm larger than the die hole size. Compared with the 5th to 8th wear, the first 4 passes are more worn, and the 9th pass is only 5 to 8 times. Slightly larger, the drawing die hole size is increased by 0.08 mm, the length of the wire through the first 4 passes is 700 km, and the same size is expanded. The length of the wire passing through the 5-8 passes is 1200 km, of which the first 4 passes are ordinary. Drawing die, pressure mode is used for the 5th to 8th passes.

The wear ring is evaluated by the maximum wear depth at which the working cone starts to wear to the tangent point. The first pass wire drawing die wears all the length of the working cone, and the 8th and 9th pass wear ring depth is 0.04 mm. The length of the drawn wire is 300,550 km, and the length of the corresponding drawn wire is 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1300 km when the wear ring depth of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth passes is 0.06 mm.

The micrometer measures the closest to the actual value with an error of ±0.005 mm and the error of the laser measurement is 0.01 mm larger than the micrometer. Wire drawing die wear is divided into changes in the wear ring and an increase in size. The pressure die reduces wear.
